From the same people that brought you iStat nano comes iStat, the “most powerful system monitoring application for Mac OS X”. With iStat you can see a snapshot of CPU, memory, disk, or network usage. You can also see how long your computer’s been running (uptime) and battery health. It’s great to see it all in one place.

Wraparound liberates your mouse cursor. When the cursor reaches the edge of the screen, it can now wrap around to the other side and keep going. It can work horizontally, vertically, or both. Wraparound can also ignore the corners so Exposé will continue to work.

Blender is an open source animation and 3D modeling application. It’s comparable to an expensive app called Maya. I can’t say I personally know how to use such a complex application, but the gallery of submitted art proves that some people sure do. It was even used in creating Spider-Man 2.

Safari traces its roots to an open source project called KHTML. (KHTML is also the basis for a Linux-only web browser called Konqueror.) When Apple decided to use the KHTML code in its own web browser, it called the project “WebKit” and the project is still under active development. WebKit is the HTML rendering engine that powers Safari, Mail, Dashboard, and 3rd party apps like Shiira.
If you download WebKit, you’ll notice it looks almost exactly like Safari. But you’re actually getting a copy of “future Safari” (like “future Dwight” from last week’s episode of The Office) — that is, it always contains the newest cutting edge features that Apple will eventually include in Safari. You can actively contribute to the development of Safari by reporting any problems you find in WebKit. You can also read the WebKit blog to learn about the work of David Hyatt and other Apple employees working on Safari.
WebKit includes a Javascript debugging application called Drosera that can come in very handy if you’re a web developer.

iQuip will let you easily add notes or quotes to your login window. It’s mostly written to give you a little quote or fortune, but I use it for something more important to me.
A few weeks ago, I wrote an article called “How To Prepare For A Stolen Mac.” One of the suggestions I offered was to put a note in your login window that reads something like:
“This computer belongs to Brian Stucki. If you have found or purchased this machine, please contact Brian at 702-555-2332 or brian@email.com. A reward is offered for it’s safe return.”
It’s probably a good idea not to put a physical address because if your computer is stolen at a coffee shop or library, you wouldn’t want to make it to easy for the theif to be pointed toward your home.
Yes, I know this can be overwritten with a OS re-install, but if your computer ever gets stolen, you’re really going to hope wish that you did everything you could to get it back.
Help protect others:

From the makers of Blue Coconut comes Flame. The slogan for Flame is “Cast light on your network” and that is exactly what it does.
“Just start Flame to see all the computers on the network that are advertising services. (If it can, it’ll identify the user of each computer instead of giving you the machine’s name.) Disclose the services available from each…. Unlike existing browsers, which group by service, Flame groups by the machine they’re on. This means that you can see the links between services; “Tom’s Music” is being shared by the iChat user “Tom”, who also has an iPhoto library, “My Holiday Snaps”, and a web server. No need to wonder who’s doing what any more.”
This sure would be fun on a big college or work network.

You can consider CoRD to be a nice replacement for Microsoft’s Remote Desktop. This application will enable you to take over the screens of Windows machines so your life is easier as a Mac guy in a Windows world. It’s’ a great tool for network administrators.
CoRD looks nice and has “sparkle integration, right mouse emulation, custom port connections, stored settings, error reporting, and more resolutions.”

Ebbinghaus is a well done application that helps you learn things. Once you input a list, the application will quiz you with the questions and answers.
Like freeware apps Genius and ProVoc, Ebbinghaus will teach you with repetition. But Ebbinghaus has a great color coding feature that will keep track of your progress. You also have the ability to input photos. This would be great for memorizing things like country flags. When you install the app there is an example list to see if you can name some past Apple products.
And once you have your lists in you can share them with others or export them to your iPod. Nice.

Macdoku is a well done Sudoku application for your Mac.
A few months ago I brought home two DS Lites for my wife and me. I was excited to play Tetris online but my wife just didn’t enjoy the DS Lites. But then I showed her the incredible game called Brain Age and it’s Sudoku games. She plays Sudoku every night now.
Macdoku does a good job of bringing it to the Mac. And playing it will make you smart…er.
