NewsLife is an RSS aggregator designed around the concept of simplicity and ease of use. There aren’t a lot of confusing settings or configurations to fight through, and that’s a good thing. What NewsLife does, it does very well - and very simply. You subscribe to a feed, and it displays it… easy as that.

The interface in NewsLife is very intuitive and they start you out with a few feeds to get you going. Any you don’t like are a just an apple key + delete away from never bothering you again. Likewise adding your own feeds is as simple as hitting apple key + N and pasting in the address of any feed you’d like to add.

Macs allow you to use a variety of keyboard layouts. When writing Portuguese, my favorite keyboard layout is USInternational. Ukelele allows you to create your own custom keyboard layouts. If you’d like certain keys to be in a certain place, create your own layout and have it your way.

Hex Color Picker adds another panel to the standard color picker so you can easily work with hex color codes. (See the screenshot below.) This is great for artists and webdesigners who need to work with color codes regularly. It integrates right into the Mac OS X color system.

0xED has a horrible name (how do you pronounce this), but it’s actually a slick application for its class. 0xED is a hex editor. This means it can edit files at the “byte” level — byte by byte. You may not know why this is useful until some website or situation calls for it. But if you ever find you need a hex editor, 0xED is a great option.

Rsync is a great Unix utility for copying files and directories. Better than just copying, it can “synchronize” two sets of folders, making them equal to each other. I use it everyday for keeping my home and work Macs synced with each other.

RsyncX brings Mac beauty to the Unix utility. You can choose a source, a destination, choose a few options, and then RsyncX will do its magic. Great for backing up to an external hard drive or to another computer. (To backup to another Mac you’ll need “Remote Login” turned on in the Sharing Preference.)
