With Mac OS X Tiger, birthdays put into Address Book can be automatically added into a birthday calendar in iCal. This script allows for the other custom dates in Address Book to be put into iCal on a calendar of your choosing. Once installed, you can click the date and choose which calendar to add it to. By default, there is also an alarm added to the event. (You can take out the alarm by altering the script.)
He also offers a script to add birthdays for those who are using Panther or those who just want to have more control over their birthday calendar.
