Is your iTunes collection getting so big that it’s becoming hard to manage? Take control over your iTunes profile with You Control: Tunes, a free Mac utility that gives users complete management capabilities over their iTunes environment, all from the OS X menu bar. Think of it as a remote control for iTunes that doesn’t require switching program focus in order to use.

Sometimes an iTunes playlist can get so large it’s hard to manage. Imagine how much easier it would be if you could tell which songs were rated higher than others, based on how much you listen to it. By installing AutoRate, you can rate what’s good and bad in your playlist based on your listening frequency. If your iTunes playlist is getting a little out of control, try using AutoRate when you start organizing.

Do you want to know what’s hot on iTunes? Are you looking for the latest iTunes releases and best sellers without having to keep a browser window open, hitting the refresh key? If so, then check out the iTunes Antenna – a widget that displays this information. Not only that, but the entries are completely clickable, revealing the title, details and applicable artwork. Think of it as an iTunes RSS reader.

Do you want your iTunes playlist to match the mood you’re feeling? If so, then check out Moody – a playlist editor that matches the music to your mood. To experience Moody, select what mood a song fits by assigning it a color. Once this is done select your appropriate overall mood color and Moody takes care of the rest by offering music that best fits the way you feel.
Be careful if you are using Moody in a work environment in case those near you don’t want to hear the death metal selection in your angry mood playlist.

Goombah is a “Music Discovery Application”. Basically, what it does is analyze your listening preferences based on what you play through your iTunes music player. In other words, it creates a profile for you based on what you listen to, then it compares your profile with that of other similar profiles and makes suggestions to you based on the differences.
The idea is that Goombah will turn you on to music that you may otherwise not have heard of by showing you what people with similar taste in tunes are listening to.

Canto Pod is a widget for OSX that allows you to download lyrics to your favorite music for viewing at your leisure. So the next time you are wondering to yourself what your favorite mushmouthed rock star is wailing — you’ve got it right there at your disposal.
One of the cooler features in Canto Pod is the music spy. Canto Pod will actually spit out the lyrics to whatever song you happen to be listening to at the time - you don’t even have to do a search or query. Their library is also impressively extensive and grows every day. If you have an iPod, this one is a keeper.

Googalyzer is a pretty cool power tool kind of application for serious Google power users. It’s billed as a research tool, and some have criticised it for being essentially just a browser - which it is. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t handy or helpful for folks researching in Google.
The primary virtue of the Googalyzer browser/tool is the ease with which you can query different segments of Google without having to leave the application or open any more tabs. You have a bar across the top of the browser - similar in look and feel to OS X’s dock. From here you can query Google web, news, images, books, blogs, scholar or groups without retyping your query or opening any new tabs. Simply enter your search term one time and you’re all set.

Songbird is an open source jukebox and media player that “promises to be the Firefox of media players.” Being a jukebox puts it squarely in competition with iTunes, but Songbird offers some unique features that make it worth a look even for hardcore Mac users. (It also runs on other platforms.)
The interface will remind you of iTunes and it’s easy enough to navigate. It can play MP3 and AAC files, but also Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, and WMA. (Of course, it can’t play music purchased from the iTunes Music Store.) It’s built on the same platform as Firefox and will eventually, likewise, offer extensions so you can customize it as much as Firefox. Songbird includes a built-in web browser, which is actually better than you might think. If you browse to a web page that has a podcast or music linked to it, Songbird automatically finds these files and offers to add them to your library.
Songbird hasn’t even reached version 1.0, but it’s already shaping up to be something great and has lots of cool features. I’m excited to see where it goes.
UPDATE: Though I couldn’t get it to work at first go, Jonas wrote to tell me that Songbird can indeed play DRM’ed songs from the iTunes Music Store via the Quicktime plugin.

MediaFork will get all of your DVD’s ready for your iPod. If you have used HandBrake before than MediaFork will be quite familiar.
Basically, you just put in the disk, choose what kind of resolution and settings you want, and then your Mac do the work. It will rip the movie off (even if it is encrypted) and get it all ready for your iPod or for Front Row.
I suppose that I should recognize the great debate whether this is moral, legal, fair, etc. I say to each his own…but I’m getting all my movies ready for Apple TV.
