One of the most convenient sites on the web is TinyURL.com. This site allows you you shrink a long url to a small one so that it is easier to email or post. TinyURL Service makes it even easier to use.
Once you have this service installed, you can select a URL in an email or document, run the service, and the long URL will be replaced with a “tiny” one.

Never go without contact information again. With ABGmerge you can keep your Mac OS X Address Book and Gmail Contacts synchronized. This isn’t anything fancy, just an Applescript that can interface between a Gmail CSV file and your Mac Address Book. But if you use Gmail and your Address Book, you might like the convenience of having all your contact information in both places.

Mailboxer is a simple app that creates a Smart mailbox for everyone in your Address Book. Sounds like that could be a bad idea if you have LOTS of contacts in your Address Book, but on the other hand, it might be nice to keep all your correspondence organized.

If the built in screen capture ability of Mac OS X just doesn’t do it for you, Copernicus has some great options. It’s great for taking many screenshots.
In addition, you can record short movies with this app. “A special feature allows you to save directly to RAM, increasing movie framerates significantly for shorter movies. This is great to demonstrate a simple action to a friend or colleague.”
(If you want to see the other options for capturing your screen to a movie, see my review here.)

What once cost money is now free. With Site Studio you can create web sites. It comes with several themes and templates for various web pages, and you can publish with .Mac or by FTP. Site Studio is more convenient than powerful, so for simple sites it should work just fine.
Don’t be confused by the “shareware” notices; Site Studio really is free (now). If you click the “Purchase” button you’ll find a free license code you can enter.

AbiWord is a free word processing program like OpenOffice or Microsoft Word, and it can save documents in those formats. Includes advanced word processing features like headers/footers, mail merge, table of contents, and auto fields, in addition to all the basics you would expect. AbiWord should be more than adequate for most writing.

If you have a USB camera that isn’t supported by Mac OS X, you’ll find this freeware very useful. “Macam is a driver for USB webcams on Mac OS X. It allows hundreds of USB webcams to be used by many Mac OS X video-aware applications. The aim is to support as many webcams as possible.” And it does support a ton of cameras.
I should note though that this program isn’t setup to have your camera be compatible with iChat. But for other things like iMovie and Quicktime, this should work well.

Snail Mail lets you print addresses on envelopes. It integrates with the Mac OS X Address Book. Your own address is automatically set as the Return address, and then you can choose whatever addressee you want. Print envelopes in no time! (Then wait 3-5 days for delivery.)

Pando will make it easy to send large files to friends or family.
Usually when I need to send a large file to someone, I put it on my own server and then send them a url to visit and download it. Basically, this is what Pando will allow you to do. You drop a file on your Pando application, put in a message and an email address and the file is uploaded and a message is sent to the receiver letting them know that they can come and get it.
The other benefit to Pando is your inbox won’t get clogged up with the large files. You are only sent a small “.pando” file and that will point you where to go to get the full file.

DuckCall is an interesting app. It updates your iChat or Adium status picture with a shot taken from the iSight evey 30 seconds.
As you can imagine, you’d want to be cautious when you use this app. No more writing your papers in your birthday suit. I suppse if you were an evil boss you could force all of your employees to install this on their Macs so you can be sure that that they are working at their desk.
(PS, this is a very new app so there is still no icon for it. Perhaps some of the talented FMW readers could contact the developer and help him out.)
