“Codec” is short for coder/decoder and it refers to a way of compressing video. All Macs come with several codecs (such has H264 and MPEG-4) and you can download or buy more. DivX is another type of codec, well suited for the Web because videos can be compressed to a small file size.
This download includes the free DivX player. It also includes a 6-month trial of the DivX codec plugin so you can watch and convert DivX movies in Quicktime, iMovie, and Final Cut Pro.
