If you don’t like iChat, you have other chatting options on a Mac. Fire is one of those options, and it’s a good one.
The main reason I can see for switching is the support for other chatting services. Fire supports AIM, ICQ, irc, Google Talk, MSN, Yahoo, and Apple Bonjour. I think that pretty much covers all the major players.
And whether you use iChat, Adium or Fire, they all work with the great Chat Transcript Manager.
