Before there was Dashboard, there was Konfabulator. Like Dashboard, it allows you to run “widgets” — small, floating information panes that you can customize to your liking. You might setup widgets for your local weather, your list of things to do, or a live camera feed of downtown Las Vegas.
This won’t be anything new to Mac OS X Tiger (10.4) users, but if you’ve got an older version of Mac OS X, Konfabulator can hold you over until you upgrade. Konfabulator also works on Windows, so you can use it at the office or share it to lessen the Mac envy of your Windows-using friends. Konfabulator was recently acquired by Yahoo, and it’s now free!
