Loan Calculator X has been incredibly useful to me lately as I prepare to buy a house here in Las Vegas. Loan Calculator X will help you figure out the payments that you can expect on mortgage loans. This program will also help you work in reverse (supply the payment, interest rate, and years and it will calculate the loan amount.)
The thing I liked best about the freeware is that it will give you the loan schedule. This report will will offer how much of each payment goes toward principal and how much toward interest. It also gives the cumulative amounts and the loan balance. All of this can be quite useful for tax purposes. It can also be exported into a text file, which can be imported into Excel.
Whether you are working with mortgage loans, car loans or student loans, this freeware is quite useful. (And depressing in a market like Las Vegas.)
