I was recently in Newport Beach, CA and needed to connect to the internet so I could sync Mail and grab some new articles to read offline. I opened my Powerbook and opened MacStumbler. In less than a minute of driving, I found 12 wireless networks, 8 of which were open.
MacStumbler uses your Airport card to find wireless networks, telling you whether they are open or protected and how strong each signal is. This application works well and can be very useful when on the road.
