Pref Setter
If you're new to Freemacware.com and like what you see, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed or signup for our emails at the right. We'll send you one Mac freeware application every day. Thanks for visiting!
Often times when an app crashes or won’t open, throwing away its preference file will correct the problem.
Also, expert users may want to edit an app’s preference file to tweak a setting or activate a hidden feature. For example, Safari has a hidden Debug menu that can be activated by editing its preference file and changing “IncludeDebugMenu” from 0 to 1. You then get an option for importing IE or Netscape bookmarks, a Javascript Console, and more. (Make sure Safari is closed when you edit its preference file.)
You could always delete preference files from home/Library/Preferences, or edit them with Property List Editor from the Developer Tools, but Pref Setter makes it so much easier. Pref Setter shows you all your preference files, which you can then search, delete, or edit. I occasionally have to delete or edit a preference file and I found those tasks to be much easier with Pref Setter.
