Often, we’ll have readers send us an email asking us for freeware that will do this or that. They’ll ask us which are our favorites. It’s fun to trade tips.We thought we’d take a minute and mention some of our favorite freeware apps thus far. I’ll break it up into categories, so enable tabbed browsing and go to town.

SizzlingKeys - iTunes is the best for music, but SizzlingKeys is like the remote control
PandoraMan - free streaming music that matches your taste
iTunes Links - let the arrow buttons in iTunes point to your own library instead of the iTMS
JHymn - strip the DRM from your iTunes music

iPhoto Diet - cleans up all the baggage in iPhoto
Phoenix Slides - a very fast image browser
Keyword Assistant - The easiest way to add keywords to your iPhoto images
Dimensionizer - a contextual menu plugin that lets you see the image dimensions quickly

Favorite Peer-to-Peer Freeware
Transmission - this is a clean, slick app for work with torrents
Acqlite - a client for the powerful Gnutella network

Favorite Time Waster
iStache - all that’s missing is the option to create milk mustaches!
Minesweeper - we all look for ways to kill the last three minutes before 5pm.
Bullet Make your friends wonder why they are shooting bullet holes in their Mac screens.

Carbon Copy Cloner - get an exact copy of your Mac to restore in case of an emergency
iBackup Pick and choose the files and folders you want to back up

Quicksilver - Application launcher extraordinaire
NetNewsWire Lite - Easily the most used app on my Mac. Keep up to date with everything.

Most Useless Freeware
Whoopee Cushion Widget - absolutely useless

iCal Events stay on top of your iCal events without having iCal open

Safari Tidy Plugin - make sure your HTML is valid
URLWell - keeps track of URL’s to visit later. I use this A LOT!

Favorite ScreenSaver
Skyrocket - almost as good as Independence Day
ClockSaver - Everyone who sees this screensaver asks me where they can get it. Beautiful.

Favorite Educational Freeware
MacJournal - I learn as much from my journal as I do from any other book I can read. (Use A Mac To Record Your Life)

GLTron - just like the movie Tron
Pac The Man X - The classic game very well done.
