TextWrangler is the little brother to BBEdit, the long-lived, award-winning, and expensive text editor for Mac. TextWrangler wasn’t always free, but now it is. Like BBEdit, it subscribes to the philosophy of being feature rich (as opposed to light-weight.) Here are a few of its features:
- Open hidden files
- Open From or Save To an FTP or SFTP server
- File comparisons
- Search and replace with regular expressions on multiple files
- Strip quotes, zap gremlins (bad characters), add/remove line numbers
- Sort lines, remove duplicate lines
- Command-line support
- Semantic highlighting for several programming languages
- Plugin architecture for adding other features
If BBEdit is your grandfather’s Cadillac among text editors, then TextWrangler is the CTS.
