unpkg

Unpkg will let you unpack .pkg files to a folder on your desktop. This will allow you to install the software package as you would like it, without having to enter your password for the .pkg to have Admin rights.

This software should only be used if you are installing a package that is not very system dependant. (For instance, those which just install the application in your Applications folder.) Sometimes it just seems unnecessary to have to give your Admin password just for this to happen.

One of our most popular freeware reviews has been DesInstaller because it lets you view the package receipts of previously installed software so you can completely uninstall any program. Perhaps unpkg would be a good companion for DesInstaller, avoiding the unnecessary installs in the first place.
