Our readers highly recommend an RSS reader called Vienna. It’s fairly new and it’s open source. I downloaded it today and was quite impressed. It’s very similar to NetNewsWire Lite — a clean interface, folder groups, and the ability to import and export subscriptions. In addition, Vienna shows RSS feeds, headlines, and articles in 3 columns, which I love, instead of left/upper-right/lower-right like NNW Lite. Vienna also lets you define Smart Groups, so you can see all the articles, for instance, from a certain date or that contain certain text.
I did miss (in comparison to NetNewsWire Lite) the ability to open an article in my browser by pressing the right-arrow key or the Enter key — those keys don’t do anything in Vienna — but the Return key works. But that’s a small thing, and not a deal breaker.
Overall, Vienna is an awesome RSS reader and the first real competitor to NNW Lite on my Mac. I’m keeping it.
