Windows Media Components for QuickTime

icon

Windows Media Components for QuickTime will allow you to watch Window Media files in Quicktime. Not just the ones that are locally on your Mac, but also those that are streaming from web sites. That’s right, no more of those “We were unable to find the program to play blah blah blah” warnings.

I have been using the products from Flip4Mac for a while now, but this is the first time that I’ve seen the components offered for free. Also, this new version seems to handle more files than what I have had installed until now. Yesterday, I couldn’t watch this Google Keynote from CES because my old plugin didn’t recognize Windows Media feed. But this new version has it playing just fine.

These free components will appease most of the users. However, if you want to import and export the files for editing in iMovie and quicktime, you’ll have to upgrade.
