WordPod is a nice application that will convert an e-book into a set of files that can be read on your iPod. You can navigate the e-book on your iPod by chapter and page number. Quite amazing really.
If you don’t have any e-books, drop by the Project Gutenberg, as WordPod can work with any of the 16,000 classics available there.
