XShelf is a rest stop for your drag and drop operations. For instance, you might want to drag a file from your digital camera to a CD but you haven’t yet inserted a CD. Drag the files to XShelf and then after you’ve inserted a blank CD, drag them out of XShelf to the CD. The files aren’t actually copied to XShelf; it’s just a way to temporarily pause a drag and drop.
